Fruit Festival opens in Ben Tre

The 10th safe fruit and agricultural products festival opened in Cho Lach District, Ben Tre Province on June 12.

The annual event takes place on the double Five Festival (the 5th day of 5th lunar month) with the aim of promoting outstanding farmers and agricultural products.

In addition to showcasing varieties, plants, orchards, and fruit, the festival includes fashion design and cooking contests.

The Ben Tre provincial People Committee - organising board – in coordination with the Southern Fruit Research Institute have organised several seminars on maintaining the Ben Tre fruit trademark, to share experiences in production and trade for orchards serving the traditional Lunar New Year Festival 2010, and finding measures to prevent disease on longan.

The organising board also asked the Vietnamese Guinness Book of Records to recorgnise some biggest-ever items: two 6.5m vases, a coconut tree with 40 tops, and a map of Ben Tre made from fruit and agriculture products.
