Various events to celebrate Hung Kings’ death anniversary

A wide range of activities will take place in the northern province of Phu Tho to celebrate the death anniversary of Hung Kings and welcome the Hung Temple Festival in 2010.

Phu Tho Province is now preparing thoroughly for this year’s significant events. Pham Ba Kiem, Deputy Director of the Phu Tho provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that the first activity to be held to celebrate the Hung Temple Festival is the inauguration of the Hung Vuong Museum on April 14 (the first day of the third lunar month).

In addition, the 7th culture, sport and tourism festival for north-eastern provinces will be held from April 14-17 in the Hung Temple complex, with the participation of nine provinces and cities, namely Phu Tho, Cao Bang, Lang Son, Bac Kan, Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, Thai Nguyen, Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang.

A festival entitled “Returning to the roots” will also take place in Phu Tho to boost cooperation in tourism between Phu Tho, Yen Bai and Lao Cai provinces.

Meanwhile, Phu Tho arranged for 30 art troupes to perform traditional folksongs welcoming the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3).

Other activities include a swimming contest, an exhibition of books and research on Xoan folksongs to submit to UNESCO for recognition as a world intangible cultural heritage.

The celebration of Hung Kings’ death anniversary in 2010 will last 10 days, from April 14-23. The incense offering ceremony will be held on April 23 (the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month).
