For ages, the Tay ethnic minority in northern mountainous province of Cao Bang have paid tribute to the “rock god”.

A border area, Khuoi Ky Village has 14 rock houses on stilts, but not many know it took nearly three years for local authorities to repair the houses for conservation work.

For locals rock is believed to be a source of life and the centre of the universe. Rock is used in daily life here for building houses, fences, dams, and mills.

Khuoi Ky has been recognised as a traditional ethnic minority cultural village by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

As years pass by, the rock houses in Khuoi Ky still stand firmly, and protect locals in the border area.
