Update: Jan 28, 2016
Can Tho, renowned for its friendly people, interesting floating markets, beautiful Buddhist pagodas, as well as delicious cuisine will once again hold its annual ‘Sac xuan miet vuon’ (Colours of a Spring Garden) festival to usher in the new year.

“This year’s festival will be held on January 27,” said Director Tran Viet Phuong of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, at a press conference announcing the details of the upcoming event.

This year we are casting the spotlight on the artistry of the region’s handicraft villages and traditional Vietnamese, Chinese and Cambodian cuisine, said Phuong and there will be a bevy of traditional folk games and other activities for all to enjoy.

On the occasion, festivalgoers will also have a chance to delve into the intricacies of traditional woodcarving, mat weaving and calligraphy and learn a few secrets that have been handed down from one generation to the next for centuries.

Traditional music with the ‘Don ca tai tu’ (a genre of southern folk music) troupes has always been a favourite at the event and is once again on the agenda as well, said Phuong.
